Dogging & shy librarian's...

Tristan is a shy librarian, who may have fantasies of swinging from the rafters but he’s never had the guts to be sexually daring. Phillip, who believes more in happy endings that require a swallow than in happily ever after. After they meet it seems to Tristan everyone seems to be having wild sexy times but him and he’s tired of it. This excerpt is right after he parts company from Phillip. Tristan’s home alone as usual and even his television seems to mock his meek nature.

Excerpt for The Librarian’s Rake:

When the quiet got too loud, he flicked on the TV to hear someone talking to him as he devoured his takeout chicken sandwich.
“I’m Todd Jones, reporting on dogging in America.”
Turning toward the TV—where were the puppies?
The partially blocked-out picture showed a couple having car sex while people stood around in a semicircle watching. A voiceover boomed, “It’s called dogging. People watch a couple have sex or go to participate in some way themselves and to be watched.”
What in the world was this?
The handsome interviewer started chatting with a couple who could be Tristan’s next-door neighbors—for all he knew they might be! They calmly discussed the vast number of websites available for people to find out where others are having sex in public places.
“How long have you two been doing this?” Todd asked.
Not why, which would have been Tristan’s first question. Why would you take a risk? Why would you want others to watch you? Why—
Tristan forced himself to swallow the last bites of his sandwich while the middle-aged woman on TV smiled. “For several years. The kids graduated college and moved across the country, and, well, we wanted to add spice back into our relationship.”
The disembodied voice droned on as various censored encounters played out. “The term dogging originally came from someone walking a dog and stumbling across people having sex. But now the practice has turned into what some consider a sport. Usually the meetups happen in parking lots, but with the use of the internet….”
The man smugly stated, “The wife and I have dogged in a junkyard, mall parking lots, the back of an ice cream parlor, near several drive-thru windows, the drive-ins—”
“My favorite was in long-term parking at the airport.” His wife grinned.
The interviewer cleared his throat and asked, “Do others participate when you…?”
The wife giggled. “Only if we want them to.”
The husband added, “And only a little bit. They can lay their hands on her, but—”
“Oh you! You’re so jealous. I love you.” The women blushed.
“I love you too, Mary Jean.” The husband appeared stupidly in love with the woman.
Tristan sighed and turned off the television.
Was that what Frederick wanted? Was everyone in the world into wild sex? Why was it so amiss to want to have sex in a bed?
As he put the last pots and pans away and shut the dishwasher, his mind beelined to Phillip. He pulled out the card in his pocket and stared at it. Phillip probably used hookup sites on a regular basis. Did he order “oral sex to go” on a recurring schedule?
Tristan wanted to deny the appeal of the straightforward ease but couldn’t. It had to be wrong just having sex with strangers. Didn’t it? Maybe he was too straitlaced and hemmed in by societal norms, but he found the whole thing sordid.
Why even think about the sites he’d never use? The idea of Phillip ordering a blowjob like fast food made Tristan’s cock harden… again. The dirtiness, which had never had appeal, now seemed arousing.

Updates on Writing

Edits:
I'm currently in edits with The Temple of Heaven.

Jordon Davis who has lived in my brain for 8 years is finally getting his happily ever after. You may have first seen him as a young teen pestering his older brothers and coming out in Finally Fallen. He appeared in Lock and Key assisting his middle brother in hiding out from reality.

He's been writing to his future husband since he's been 12 years old, pining for a love he craves to share with someone special... When he meets him Jordon's more than ready.

Jordon's insta-love relationship is modeled on my own. Once he finds the man he knows is his... that's it. It's simply them against the world... and in some cases themselves.

Writing:
I'm writing Club Zombie #3: Zombies Coming. This is the story that started the series. Book 1 & 2 were me backing up to understand this story. Erick McGrath appears at the end of Book 2. He's had awful parents and lost his brother... (but if Ethan is dead why is he across the bar?)

Exploring what being gay and nonbinary mean.

I'm on Chapter 10... and I'm hoping to get it to my critique partners by the end of Feb.

Notes:
When I have noisy plot bunnies I take notes because there's no ignoring the muse. I'm taking notes on Rocking Thin Ice. Jaded skater and a rocker hook up for a good time that might just evolve into move. I'm hoping to begin work on their story in March.

My attempts at being a real writer:

My Love Affair with Cover Art

If you know anything about me it’s that I’m an art whore. I ADORE art. Cover art is amazing because if you work with the right artist they pull your characters right out of your head and into the world. It’s nothing short of a miracle!

Secured and Free’s characters (Orion, Hunter and Marcus) captured my heart even before I wrote about them. As they revealed themselves to me, I desperately wanted to see them!

About three years ago, I found K-Koji’s work via Deviant Art. I stalked his page and couldn’t help, but gush at his talent. I begged and he took my commission to do Lock and Key’s cover, and more recently Secured and Free’s cover art. Each piece took him about a year to complete. Whenever possible, I never rush an artist. Time crunches don’t assist in making loveliness.

Countless e-mails went back and forth between K-Koji and me not only about the characters, but the scene I was trying to capture on the cover. He’s super understanding, very patient, and asks great clarifying questions that helped me give him the details he needed to get the visual onto the page.

Secured and Free’s cover captures a scene that happens later in the book. Marcus, Hunter and Orion are at Entwined (their BDSM club). In this scene, Hunter is returning from visiting the lockers since phones with cameras aren’t allowed in Entwined’s main space, and he needed to text a friend. Orion has just made a declaration that has thrilled and terrified Marcus.

The scene takes place in the Albany New York Entwined. Entwined is a network of club and each club décor is a bit different. This club has a Medieval Renaissance flair. The main space is stonework, chandeliers, gilded tables and chests, scattered among sofas and chairs cushioned in lush fabrics.

The first book in the Entwined Dreams series: Lock and Key the cover shows you a view of the stage where BDSM demonstrations as well as the Are You Dom Enough to be a sub auction takes place.

Secured and Free’s cover, allows us to view stonework of the landing. The landing is the place where the members are able to let to rest of the world drop away and can melt into their BDSM fantasies. The landing is a place where one is able to see the entire main space of the club and one can be seen by all. Coming down the stone staircase alone or as part of a couple, trio or moresome sends a clear message to all.

Exclusive Excerpt of Secured and Free:
Marcus froze at the stone landing and scrutinized the shadowed main space of Entwined. The tables and chairs were filled with members and friends, both new and old. Light scenes played out in the room as other couples and groups made their way to the back rooms.
He inhaled the scent of sex and leather. Ah, the perfume of freedom. Entwined’s air threatened to make descending the stairs a difficult task.
“You good, Orion?” Maybe Marcus was a bit protective if he were to judge Hunt’s expression of “let the man be a sub,” which was hard to miss, even if one attempted to ignore it.
“Yes, Marcus.” A rod of steel seemed to straighten Orion’s core.
Hunter stepped over to Marcus’s right, stirring the scent of leather and man as he moved. He’d gotten Hunter that tailored vest for Christmas last year. It was worth every extra tattoo he’d had to give to afford the sexy creation. The way it stretched across Hunter’s muscles made Marcus want to rub his face on Hunter’s pecs.
People downstairs started to notice them. Entrance made. He grabbed Orion’s hand and Hunter’s. They glided down the stairs in a way that announced they were a trio.

Secured and Free Blurb:
An abusive Dom robbed Orion Gordon of his love of BDSM, destroying his confidence and leaving him unsure he’ll ever find peace through submission to another. Still, deep inside, his longing continues.

Marcus Sadir loves Hunter Dixon, yet can’t be the one thing Hunter truly desires: a sub to control. And Hunter can’t find satisfaction in the sadistic aspects of the BDSM lifestyle, while Marcus thrives on inflicting and sharing pain. When Marcus convinces Hunter they should find a third on a permanent basis, they discover Orion might be the key to bridging their differences and joining them on a deeper level.

But they must help Orion move past his trauma enough for him to enjoy new facets of BDSM and kink again. Their journey toward becoming whole—together—won’t be without challenges. Can Orion trust enough to try again?

Benny & Joon Movie Night at the library

The librarian in The Librarian’s Rake is running a movie night at his library. I thought a lot about which older movie would Tristan play for the mostly teen crowd. Benny & Joon came to mind. It is sweet and filled with love but also there’s a message of just because someone has issues doesn’t make them unlovable and with enough support people can live happy and fulfilling lives.

Pre-Z. Allora I worked many years with individuals with developmental disabilities and folks with mental health issues. My job wasn’t about curing them but about setting up an environment and a support system so they could reach their fullest potential as independently as possible.

Tristan would identify with Joon because he never quite fit. Though he fantasizes about being someone cool like Benny, while Benny didn’t always blend well with others he was appreciated and found love without changing anything about himself.

Excerpt from The Librarian’s Rake

As the movie progressed, he tried to pay attention. Had the distance between their chairs been altered? They seemed too close, but to push away would disturb the others. Though the proximity to this gorgeous man was too enticing to expect his libido wouldn’t make a wish list. A checklist of all the sensuous things Tristan wanted to do, as if he’d ever be given the opportunity.
He’d cuddle Phillip close. Maybe kiss the man’s eyelids and lick his extralong eyelashes. Maybe he’d rub his feet, his back… his whatever.
Tristan tried not to stare at Phillip, but his gaze kept straying from the movie. Twice within five minutes, Phillip caught him gawking, and a dimple came out in his cheek.
Had Phillip moved closer? Their knees almost touched. God, did Tristan imagine the heat coming off Phillip? So close, so warm, so everything. If he parted his legs a bit farther, they’d be touching.
The sex scene… he didn’t care if the sex scene was heterosexual or not. If done well, the intensity of emotion could transcend orientation. Johnny Depp looked so—Tristan could never hope to be that erotic and loving at the same time.
Phillip leaned into his side, and the words he whispered tickled Tristan’s ear. “Oh God, it’s so sweet but searing hot.”
Never had the fade to black taken away his breath the way it did this time around. Their knees inched closer. Why on earth did he crave contact with Phillip and with this intensity?
Did it matter? For once in his life, he’d do what he wanted. He gave in and opened his legs just enough to make his knee rest against Phillip’s. The small sigh from Phillip said Tristan hadn’t been the only one affected by the touch.
Phillip’s face lingered close to Tristan’s. If he turned his head, their lips would graze. However, to move his head was a risk he couldn’t take. Maybe Frederick had been right about Tristan’s timid nature. But following his animal instincts without control would make Tristan no better than his father, and he wasn’t his father. Plus, he was at work.
After a moment, Phillip nuzzled his cheek, making Tristan ache for so much more. When he remained frozen, Phillip fell back into his seat with a long, drawn-out sigh.
